Jake was excited to finally go fishing with Dad. They had a lot of fun and Jake brought home a few fish. The funny thing about the whole trip was that by the time Jake got home from fishing he was quite upset about what had just happened. He brought his fish in to show me and then said, "Mom, I just don't think that it is ok for us to take control of an animals life and decide that it should die because we want to have it."
He was really upset about it. We read some scriptures about these things being provided for us and told him about Peter being a fisherman and everything. His comment was, "But I just don't think we need to kill the animals when there is so much food that is good for our bodies that is in our cupboards." Good point.
We let Jake express his feelings about it and decide what he wanted to do. He wouldn't eat the fish when we had them for dinner, but was glad that someone did so they didn't die for no reason.
Jake has now decided that he loves to fish, but he would rather be a catch and release fly fisherman, because you can still see how pretty the fish are then let them go and they don't swallow the fly so it doesn't hurt them too much.
He now has a flyfishing pole and some waders. I will have to get some pictures of that! It is about the cutest thing I have ever seen! He went with Ryan the other night and caught a couple of fish with his rod! He was pretty excited about it!
With the Big Wood River in our back yard it would be a shame to not fish it! It is one of the best fishing spots in the nation and it is absolutely beautiful! See the "Lindstrom Fam" link on the right for more pics of fishing!
